April Diet Challenge Day 18

This is Day 18 of my challenge.

Straight to the news about my weight today…

My weight today: 168.6 lbs

My lowest weight in over 20 years (maybe longer).

I have never seen this number on the scale before, so I have officially broken new ground.

Picture:

one meal day 18

Food:

  • Dinner: (leftovers night) Meatballs in tomato sauce with new potatoes.
  • Dessert: Tarte Tatin with a splash of double cream.
  • 1 Cup of tea.
  • 2 cups of coffee.

OK so it was a meal distinctly lacking in vegetables and not as balanced as I would have liked, but it’s leftovers night and I don’t want to throw food away just because it’s not nutritionally optional. Some days you have to do the best you can with what you’ve got.

I’m still missing the fruit from my diet. I said I’d deal with this the other day but I haven’t. It’s in my consciousness though, so that’s something at least.

My wife is doing some amazing cooking and baking at the moment. The tarte tatin was delicious, although I only had a small slice.

Exercise:

  • 1 x 50 minute walk
  • 1 x 30 minute walk
  • 50 Push Ups
  • 50 Squats

Whenever I can I like to be opportunistic. If I have the chance to walk some extra distance I often will. Not just for the exercise though, it’s also restful and peaceful. I’m disconnected from the world and left with my own thoughts. It gives me a good chance to think things through and reinforce the thoughts that are beneficial to my progress. Sometimes you have to keep telling yourself that you can do it. If you say it often enough you start to believe it… and when you believe in something you start to make it happen.

Your last line is so spot on! So much of losing weight is in the head. This is never more true when one is fasting.

I’m with you there. Now that I look back, I’ve had a few goes at this diet over the last five years, and the crucial factor in my successes and my failures was my mindset… not just in relation to my diet, but also my philosophy on life. I’ve changed a bit over the last few years and I feel better for it – funnily enough the weight loss is almost a side issue.
